SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 24: Police have arrested three alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in Shopian, Awantipora and Sopore, recovering cannabis, charas and psychotropic substances from their possession, officials said on Thursday.
In Shopian, Police Station Zainapora arrested Mudasir Ahmad Mir, a resident of Kashwa, after recovering 2.074 kg of cannabis-like substance from a residential house. Acting on specific information, police obtained a search warrant and conducted the raid in the presence of an Executive Magistrate.
A case under FIR No. 124/2026 of the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway to establish the source of the contraband and its forward and backward linkages.
In Awantipora, police arrested Suhail Ahmad Allie of Syeedabad Pastuna during naka checking at Aripal Bridge, Tral. Police said 50 grams of charas and 300 grams of cannabis powder were recovered from his possession.
A case under FIR No. 106/2026 has been registered at Police Station Tral, with further investigation underway.
Separately, police in Sopore apprehended Ansab Altaf Najar alias Ansar of Batpora during naka checking at Super Bazar Crossing near Shah Dargah and recovered a psychotropic substance from his possession.
A case under Sections 8/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore under FIR No. 241/2026. Police said the investigation would establish the source of the substance and possible wider linkages.
Police said the operations were part of its sustained crackdown against drug trafficking and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards the drug menace.
