Srinagar, Sep 15: Jammu & Kashmir Police arrested nine persons in separate operations across five districts and recovered heroin-like substance, charas, poppy straw and liquor bottles, police said on Tuesday.
In Baramulla, police arrested Syed Ahmad Shah of Devar during naka checking at Devar and recovered around 2 grams of heroin-like substance, a mobile phone and Rs 4,000 cash. A case under the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Pattan.
In Bandipora, police arrested Haris Fayaz of T.A. Shah after recovering 1.150 kg of charas from a scooty intercepted at Shok Baba Sumlar. The vehicle was also seized. In a separate operation at Sangri Top, Aloosa, police arrested Umar Lateef Ganie of Sopore and recovered around 53 grams of charas.
In Awantipora, police intercepted an auto-rickshaw at Punzoo Shaldraman and arrested its driver, Maqsood Ahmad Lone of Chak Noorpora. Around 1.50 kg of poppy straw was recovered and the vehicle seized.
In Kulgam, police arrested Zahoor Ahmad Itoo of Sonigam during naka checking at YK Pora near the bridge. Police said 106 grams of charas-like substance in nine sticks was recovered from his bag.
In Shopian, police arrested Manthan Nitesh, currently residing at Alyalpora, during naka checking at Bongam and recovered 21 liquor bottles. In another operation at Darazpora near SIDCO Bridge, police arrested Faisal Rahid Bhat of Pulwama and recovered around 112 grams of charas-like powder.
Police said separate FIRs have been registered in all cases and investigations are underway to establish the source and forward and backward linkages of the seized substances.
J&K Police reiterated its commitment to curbing drug trafficking and appealed to the public to share information about drug-related activities, assuring confidentiality of informants.
