SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 14: Police arrested six alleged drug peddlers in separate operations across Shopian, Anantnag, Sopore and Kulgam and recovered heroin-like and charas-like substances, capsules and cash from their possession, officials said on Monday.
In Shopian, two persons were arrested in separate naka-checking operations. Police said approximately 1.210 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from Murshid Ahmad Malik of Krawoora Imamsahib at Kiloora Crossing. At Babapora Zainapora crossing, another person, Muneeb Ahmad Thoker of Beibagh Yaripora, Kulgam, was apprehended with 18 grams of a charas-like substance.
In Anantnag, police intercepted Jahangir Yaqoob Bhat of Hanji Dantar during checking at Bypass Library while he was travelling on a motorcycle. A search led to the recovery of 4.30 grams of charas, police said.
In Sopore, police intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK05H-4164 at Amargarh Crossing and arrested its driver, Jahangir Ahmad Dar of Patoosa, Rafiabad. Police said 240 Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus capsules and ₹47,000 in cash were recovered from the vehicle. The truck was also seized.
Separately, in Kulgam, police intercepted a Honda Amaze carrying two persons during naka checking on the national highway near Navyug Tunnel. Police said 17 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from the vehicle. The accused were identified as Riaz Ahmed Mir and Hanan Mushtaq, both residents of Khunmoh, Srinagar.
A case under FIR No. 219/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Qazigund in connection with the Kulgam recovery. Separate cases under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act have also been registered at the concerned police stations, with investigations underway to establish the source of the contraband and possible wider linkages.
Police said it remains committed to curbing drug trafficking and urged people to share information about drug peddling and substance abuse with the nearest police station.
