Anantnag/ Kulgam, Sept 11:Â Police have arrested five alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in Kulgam, Anantnag and Tral and recovered heroin, charas and cannabis-like substances from their possession.
In Kulgam, a police party from Police Station Qazigund, during naka checking on the National Highway near Navyug Tunnel, intercepted an Alto K10 bearing temporary registration number JK01C-0049.
During checking, police recovered around 60 grams of a heroin-like substance from a polythene bag allegedly carried by a passenger in the vehicle. The passenger was identified as Sikandar Singh, son of Vasakha Singh, a resident of Moga, Punjab, and was taken into custody.
A case under FIR No. 20/2026 under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Qazigund. Police said the investigation is underway to trace the source and intended destination of the contraband and ascertain the involvement of other persons.
In Anantnag, a police party from Police Station Uttersoo apprehended Muzaffar Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Mohd Wani, a resident of Panchalthan, Uttersoo, at Buchan Crossing, Khanzaman.
During his search, police recovered charas from his possession. A case under FIR No. 92/2026 has been registered at Police Station Uttersoo and investigation has been initiated.
In a separate operation in Tral, Awantipora, police intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03B-8646 during naka checking. Three persons travelling in the vehicle were arrested after police recovered 3 grams of a heroin-like substance and 13.94 grams of a cannabis-like substance.
The accused were identified as Sujad Saleem, son of Bashir Ahmad Turabi, a resident of Diver; Feroz Ahmad Chopan, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan, a resident of Laruw Jageer; and Mohd Shafi Mir, son of Abdul Aziz Mir, a resident of Aripal.
Police also seized the vehicle allegedly used in the commission of the offence.
A case under FIR No. 102/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Tral, and investigation has been set into motion.
Police reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and urged the public to cooperate by identifying and reporting activities related to the illegal trade and distribution of narcotic substances.
