6 apprehended in Shopian ops

Shopian, Aug 25: Six persons were apprehended in two separate operations conducted by J&K Police in coordination with the Army and CRPF in Shopian district, with hand grenades, AK-47 magazines, ammunition and posters recovered from them, officials said.

In Heerpora area, three persons were intercepted during naka checking while travelling on a motorcycle bearing registration number JK18B-6130.

The three have been identified as Junaid Muzaffar Dar, son of Muzaffar Ahmad Dar, Aamir Yousuf, son of Mohammad Yousuf, both residents of Chaddar, Kulgam, and Junaid Bashir Dar, son of Bashir Ahmad Dar, resident of Matalhama, Kulgam.

Two hand grenades and posters were recovered from their possession, officials said. FIR No. 84/2026 has been registered at Police Station Heerpora under relevant provisions of law.

In a separate operation in the Imam Sahib area, a joint patrol comprising Shopian Police, 34 Rashtriya Rifles and 178 Battalion CRPF apprehended three more persons.

During their personal search, one hand grenade, two AK-47 magazines, 20 rounds and posters were recovered, officials said.

The apprehended persons have been identified as Haris Manzoor, son of Manzoor Ahmad, resident of Axadpora, Anantnag, Ashiq Hussain, son of Abdul Rashid, resident of Laram Ganjipora, Anantnag, and Arif Ahmad Kumar, son of Ghulam Rasool Kumar, resident of Laram Ganjipora, Anantnag.

In connection with the recovery, FIR No. 59/2026 has been registered at Police Station Imam Sahib under relevant provisions of law.

Further investigation in both cases is underway to ascertain the circumstances and activities of the apprehended persons. [KNT]
