Budgam, Aug 21: Authorities on Friday reopened Doodhpathri, one of the major tourist spots in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, for visitors. The destination temporarily closed due to inclement weather conditions and the risk of flash floods and landslides last month.

Local traders, pony operators, cab drivers, food stall owners and other stakeholders welcomed the decision, saying the reopening will help them resume their livelihoods after the temporary closure.

“We are happy that Doodhpathri has reopened. Tourism is our main source of livelihood, and the return of visitors will provide much-needed relief to local families,” locals said.

The authorities had earlier ordered the temporary closure of Doodhpathri in view of continuous rainfall and the possibility of flash floods and landslides, particularly along the approach roads.

With weather conditions improving, the destination has now been opened for tourists, bringing relief to the local tourism community and businesses dependent on visitor footfall. (KNO)
