Srinagar, August 15: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader and Constituency Incharge Habba Kadal, Arif Laigroo, expressed serious concern over the acute water shortage in Ganpatyar and Gow Kadal areas of Habba Kadal Constituency, where residents have been forced to come out on the streets to protest over the lack of drinking water.
In a statement issued here, Laigroo said that the situation has caused immense hardship to residents, particularly families, elderly people and children, who are struggling to meet their basic daily needs due to the continued disruption in water supply.
He urged the concerned authorities and the Jal Shakti Department to take immediate measures to restore regular and adequate water supply to the affected areas.
“People should not have to take to the streets to demand something as basic as drinking water. The administration must treat this issue with urgency and ensure that the affected households receive a reliable water supply without further delay,” Laigroo said.
He appealed to the concerned officials to visit the affected localities, assess the ground situation and put in place a permanent mechanism to prevent recurring water shortages in these densely populated areas.
Laigroo reiterated that providing uninterrupted access to safe drinking water is a basic responsibility of the administration and urged the authorities to act immediately in the interest of the residents.
