Jammu, Aug 11: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a corruption case against a former Patwari in Kishtwar district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh for issuance of a land record document, officials said on Tuesday.
An FIR (No. 02/2026) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended) was lodged at the ACB police station in Doda against Mohd Arif Mir, the then Patwari of Patwar Halqa Trigam, a resident of Malipeth near Grid Station, Kishtwar, they said.
The case was initiated following a verification conducted by the ACB’s DKR Jammu unit into a complaint, which alleged that the accused public servant abused his official position by demanding Rs 5,00,000 from the complainant for issuance of a ‘Fard’ (land record document), they added.
According to the complaint, the accused accepted Rs 3,00,000 through a cheque as illegal gratification, after which the Fard was issued, officials said.
During the course of investigation, the ACB obtained a search warrant from the competent court and conducted a search at the accused’s residential premises in Malipeth area of Kishtwar in the presence of a magistrate and independent witnesses, they said.
Further investigation in the case is in progress, officials added.
