3 arrested with drugs

Srinagar, August 10: J&K Police arrested three persons in separate drug-related cases in Baramulla district and recovered contraband and psychotropic substances during naka checking, intensifying its crackdown against drug trafficking and substance abuse.

In Baramulla, police apprehended two persons during naka checking at Jeel Bridge. A Maruti Swift bearing registration number JK05P-7750 was intercepted, following which its occupants, identified as Mohd Saleem Qureshi, son of Mohd Ashraf Qureshi, and Aijaz Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Mohd Mir, both residents of Nambla, Uri, were searched.

Police said 10 grams and 7 grams respectively of a brown sugar-like substance were recovered from their possession. Both accused were arrested and the recovered substance seized as per due procedure. A case under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered and further investigation initiated.

In a separate case in Sopore, police apprehended a suspected drug peddler during naka checking at Bagh-e-Sundri Crossing under the jurisdiction of Police Post Fruit Mandi.

The accused was identified as Mohammad Nasir Khuroo, son of Nazir Ahmad Khuroo, a resident of Bohripora, Sopore. Police said a psychotropic substance was recovered from his possession and seized as per legal procedure.

A case vide FIR No. 198/2026 under Sections 8/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore, with further investigation underway to establish the source of the substance and identify wider linkages.

Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and said strict action would continue against those involved in the illicit drug trade to safeguard youth and society from the drug menace.
