Srinagar, Aug 6: Preparations for India’s first digitally conducted Census entered the next phase in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Thursday as a three-day training programme for Master Trainers concluded ahead of the Population Enumeration scheduled to begin in the notified snow-bound areas in September.
The Directorate of Census Operations, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh completed the Phase-II Master Trainers’ Training Programme for Population Enumeration, with participants from 16 districts of J&K and Leh and Kargil in Ladakh.
The trained Master Trainers will now conduct district-level training for Field Trainers, who will subsequently train Enumerators and Supervisors for the enumeration exercise, marking a key step in field-level preparedness for Census 2027.
Director of Census Operations Amit Sharma said the Master Trainers form the backbone of the Census training framework and will play a crucial role in ensuring uniformity, accuracy and quality in the population enumeration exercise. He stressed the need to maintain uniform training standards so that every Enumerator and Supervisor is fully prepared for the country’s first digital Census.
The three-day programme, held from August 4 to 6, included classroom sessions, demonstrations, practical exercises, quizzes, role plays and interactive discussions conducted by Joint Chief Principal Census Officer and National Trainer Arun Kumar and Assistant Chief Principal Census Officer Jatinder Kumar.
The training covered Census concepts and operational timelines, demographic details, religion and caste, disability, language, education, economic activity, migration, fertility, enumeration of the houseless population, the revisional round, operation of the Population Enumeration mobile application, self-enumeration, interviewing techniques and digital data collection.
The Population Enumeration in the notified snow-bound areas of J&K and Ladakh is scheduled to commence in September as part of the Census 2027 exercise.
