Deputes Itoo to SKIMS to oversee treatment
SRINAGAR, July 28: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday expressed deep concern over the road accident in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district in which 39 Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims were injured, directing authorities to ensure the best possible medical care and deputing Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo to oversee their treatment at SKIMS, Soura.
The accident occurred earlier in the day when a bus carrying pilgrims returning to Srinagar after paying obeisance at the holy Amarnath cave shrine skidded off the road near the Ganiwan-Hariganiwan stretch in Gund, Kangan, after the driver reportedly lost control while negotiating a curve. The injured were initially shifted to Sub-District Hospital, Kangan, before being referred to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura for specialised treatment.
Following the incident, the Chief Minister directed the Health and Medical Education Department to provide the best possible medical care to all the injured pilgrims and deputed Sakeena Itoo to personally monitor their treatment at SKIMS.
Acting on the Chief Minister’s directions, the Minister visited the hospital, where she met the injured pilgrims and enquired about their well-being. She also interacted with their attendants, assuring them of the government’s full support.
Itoo reviewed the treatment being provided to the injured and held detailed discussions with doctors and senior hospital officials regarding their medical condition and progress.
Emphasising that the health and well-being of the pilgrims remained the government’s foremost priority, the Minister directed the hospital administration to ensure the highest standard of medical care, specialised treatment and every required facility for their speedy recovery.
“There should be no compromise in treatment, and all necessary medical assistance and support must be extended to them,” she said, while instructing hospital authorities to closely monitor the condition of each patient and ensure round-the-clock availability of specialist doctors, medicines and other essential healthcare services.
Director SKIMS, Dr Ashraf Ganie, informed the Minister that all the injured pilgrims were under constant medical supervision and were receiving comprehensive treatment from teams of specialists.
The Chief Minister wished the injured pilgrims a speedy recovery and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to extending every possible assistance to them and their families during this difficult time.
