LG Sinha directs best medical care
SRINAGAR, July 28: Thirty-nine Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims were injured after a bus carrying them overturned and rolled into a gorge at the S-Mode stretch in the Ganiwan-Hariganiwan area of Gund in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday, prompting a large-scale rescue operation.
Officials said the accident occurred when the bus lost control on the mountainous road before overturning and plunging into the gorge. The pilgrims were returning after having darshan of the Amarnath cave shrine.
A joint rescue operation was immediately launched by Gund Police under the supervision of Station House Officer (SHO) Rayees Ahmad, with assistance from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), 118 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 2 Assam Rifles, 21 Rashtriya Rifles, Yatra Police and local residents.
All the injured pilgrims were safely evacuated from the accident site and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. The injured are residents of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. Officials said all of them are receiving medical treatment and their condition is being closely monitored.
Following the accident, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha spoke to Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Jatin Kishore and senior health officials to inquire about the condition of the injured pilgrims.
In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor said that 39 pilgrims sustained injuries in the accident and are undergoing treatment at SKIMS. He directed health officials to ensure all necessary assistance and the best possible medical care for the injured.
“I have directed the health officials to ensure all necessary assistance and the best possible medical care. I pray to Lord Shiva for the speedy recovery of the injured devotees,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident, and the exact cause of the accident is under investigation.
