Says nation salutes his sacrifice
Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday visited the family of martyred Jammu and Kashmir Police Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi at Lalpora village in Beerwah area of Budgam district, paying tributes to the slain policeman and assuring full support to his family, including assistance until his son becomes eligible for a compassionate government appointment.
Accompanied by Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and senior civil and police officers, the Lieutenant Governor met the bereaved family and conveyed his condolences to them.
He said the entire nation was proud of Ashiq Hussain Qureshi, whose courage, sacrifice and devotion to duty would remain etched in the country’s collective memory.
“The nation salutes his devotion to duty and stands firmly with his family. His courage and sacrifice will forever inspire us,” the Lieutenant Governor said, adding that the martyr’s ideals of love for duty and dedication to the motherland would continue to guide efforts towards building a peaceful, prosperous and developed Jammu and Kashmir.
He assured the family that the administration would stand by them and ensure their well-being and dignity. He also announced that the government would extend full support to the family until the martyr’s son completes his education and becomes eligible for appointment in government service on compassionate grounds.
In a post on X after the visit, Sinha said he had visited Lalpora to meet the family members of the martyred policeman and reiterated that his sacrifice would forever inspire the nation. Referring to the ongoing anti-terror operations, he said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the police, Army and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) were continuing to dismantle the terror ecosystem.
Reaffirming the administration’s resolve to eliminate terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor urged society, particularly the youth, to draw inspiration from the martyr’s devotion to duty and remain united in the fight against terrorism.
Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi of the 3rd Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police was killed earlier this week after a terrorist shot him at close range while he was on patrolling duty in Anantnag town. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police have since launched an extensive manhunt to trace the attacker, circulating the suspect’s photograph among the public to help identify him. As part of the investigation, around 3,500 overground workers (OGWs) linked to different terrorist outfits have been rounded up for questioning.
Ashiq Hussain Qureshi had joined the police department on compassionate grounds after the death of his father, Mohiuddin Qureshi, who had also served as a Head Constable in the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
A day before visiting the martyr’s family, the Lieutenant Governor had reviewed security arrangements and logistics for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Yatra in the aftermath of the Anantnag terror attack.
