Srinagar, July 24: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday spoke to the son of martyred Jammu and Kashmir Police Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi and assured the bereaved family of all possible assistance, as Leader of Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly Sunil Sharma visited their residence in Budgam to offer condolences.
Sharma visited the family at Lolipora village in Beerwah area of Budgam district and facilitated a telephonic conversation between Shah and the martyr’s son.
During the call, the Home Minister conveyed his condolences and assured the family that the Union Government stood firmly with them and would extend every possible support during their time of grief.
“The family also shared their concerns directly with the Home Minister, who assured them that the Central Government stands firmly with them and would extend every possible support,” Sharma told reporters.
Paying tributes to the slain policeman, Sharma described Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi’s sacrifice as one that would be remembered with honour and respect. He offered prayers for the departed soul and wished the family strength to bear the loss.
The BJP leader said the entire nation stood with the martyr’s family and reiterated that the sacrifices of security personnel would always be honoured. He also said efforts would be made to name a school or another public institution after Qureshi in recognition of his service.
Sharma said two generations of the martyr’s family had served the nation with dedication and praised the Home Minister’s personal outreach, saying it reflected the Union Government’s commitment to supporting the families of personnel who lay down their lives in the line of duty.
Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi was martyred after terrorists shot him at point-blank range near Lal Chowk in Anantnag on Wednesday while he was on security duty.
