Baramulla, July 24: As part of its ongoing campaign to safeguard forest land from illegal encroachments, the Jammu & Kashmir Forest Department, JV Forest Division Baramulla on Friday carried out a major anti-encroachment drive in Compartment No. 10/H, Khamoh Block, Tehsil Rafiabad, falling under the jurisdiction of Doabgah Forest Range.
The operation was conducted on the directions of DFO JV Forest Division Baramulla, Zahid Aslam Moghal, under the close supervision of Range Officer Doabgah, Javed Iqbal Kema, with the active participation of the field staff and personnel of the Forest Protection Force (FPF).
During the operation, 2.6 hectares (approximately 52 kanals) of encroached forest land were successfully retrieved from the illegal possession of five encroachers, as per the official records. All unauthorized encroachments were removed, and the retrieved land was restored to the possession of the Forest Department.
The successful operation reflects the Forest Department’s firm resolve that illegal occupation of forest land will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Appreciating the dedication and coordinated efforts of the field staff and FPF personnel, Range Officer Doabgah, Javed Iqbal Kema, stated that the department remains fully committed to protecting forest resources and that anti-encroachment drives will continue across the division without fear or favour.
Speaking on the occasion, DFO JV Forest Division Baramulla, Zahid Aslam Moghal, emphasized that forests are a priceless national asset whose protection is essential for maintaining ecological balance, conserving biodiversity, safeguarding water resources, and ensuring a secure future for coming generations. He stated that illegal encroachment on forest land is not only a violation of the law but also poses a serious threat to the environment and the larger public interest.
The Forest Department appealed to the public to refrain from encroaching upon forest land and to cooperate with the department in its efforts to conserve and protect the region’s valuable natural resources.
Citizens were also urged to promptly report any incidents of illegal encroachment or damage to forest resources so that timely legal action can be taken.
