Directs round-the-clock rescue, restoration
Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday reviewed the damage to houses and public infrastructure caused by heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides in Rajouri and Poonch, directing the district administration and all departments to work round the clock in close coordination to expedite rescue, relief and restoration efforts.
According to an official communiqué, the Lieutenant Governor spoke to senior officials and the Deputy Commissioners of Rajouri and Poonch to assess the extent of damage. He has been continuously monitoring the situation and instructed the administration to prioritise the reopening of key roads and the restoration of power and water supplies.
In a post on X, Sinha said the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu, are on the ground supervising the response. He added that he had been informed that 356 of the 435 roads damaged by the heavy rains, flash floods and landslides had already been restored.
The Lieutenant Governor said teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Army, Border Roads Organisation (BRO), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), J&K Police and Civil Defence were working in coordination, while Quick Response Teams had been deployed in vulnerable areas to strengthen emergency response.
He also appealed to the public to avoid non-essential travel in vulnerable areas and strictly adhere to safety advisories issued by the respective district administrations.
Expressing grief over the loss of lives in the natural calamity, Sinha conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
