Calls for meaningful Monsoon Session
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called for a productive Monsoon Session of Parliament, urging lawmakers to ensure meaningful, fact-based debates and avoid disruptions, while asserting that India remained the world’s fastest-growing major economy despite the challenges posed by the conflict in West Asia.
Addressing the media before the start of the Monsoon Session, PM Modi said Parliament should function smoothly and discussions should be guided by “facts and logic” to meet the aspirations of the country and its youth.
“Where there are facts and logic, there is no place for disruption,” he said, adding that every voice should get an opportunity and every idea should be respected.
Projecting India’s economic resilience amid global uncertainty, the Prime Minister said the conflict in West Asia had disrupted supplies of petroleum products, LPG, fertilisers and chemicals, posing a major challenge for an energy-import-dependent country like India. Despite these headwinds, he said, India recorded 7.7 per cent economic growth, making it the fastest-growing major economy in the world.
PM Modi also highlighted a series of recent achievements, particularly in science and technology, saying they reflected the country’s growing capabilities and the potential of its youth.
Referring to the recent achievement of private space startup Skyroot, he said the accomplishment demonstrated the expanding role of young innovators in India’s space sector.
He noted that the average age of the startup’s team was 28 years and described the milestone as evidence that the aspirations and capabilities of India’s youth were “as limitless as space itself.”
The Prime Minister credited the government’s reform agenda for creating an ecosystem that enables young entrepreneurs to undertake ambitious projects and succeed.
Listing recent infrastructure and technology milestones, PM Modi referred to the commissioning of a major oil refinery in Rajasthan, the inauguration of the country’s third semiconductor plant and the launch of what he described as the world’s longest and most powerful green hydrogen-powered train.
He said these achievements reflected the collective efforts of India’s scientists, engineers, innovators, entrepreneurs and workers.
Drawing a parallel between the monsoon and the parliamentary session, PM Modi said both become beneficial when they are proactive and productive, expressing hope that the session would contribute to the nation’s progress through constructive deliberations.
He also urged MPs across party lines to actively participate in the proceedings and help advance the country’s development through meaningful debate.
