LG Sinha directs best medical care
Jammu/Srinagar: Six people, including five Shri Amarnath Yatra pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh and their driver from Ganderbal, were injured on Saturday after their vehicle collided with a parked dumper truck near Jakhani on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Udhampur district.
Officials said there was no loss of life in the accident. The injured were shifted to Government Medical College (GMC), Udhampur, where they are undergoing treatment.
The vehicle was part of a convoy carrying more than 3,600 pilgrims that had left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for Kashmir to undertake the annual pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath cave shrine.
Following the accident, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reviewed the situation and spoke with Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa and medical officials, directing them to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured pilgrims.
In a post on X, Sinha said he had inquired about the health condition of the injured pilgrims.
“Spoke with the Deputy Commissioner of Udhampur and medical officials and inquired about the health condition of Shri Amarnathji Yatra pilgrims injured in the unfortunate road accident near Jakhani, Udhampur earlier this morning. Five pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh and a driver from Ganderbal sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at GMC Udhampur. Senior officials have been directed to ensure all necessary assistance and the best possible medical care is provided for their swift recovery. I pray to Baba Barfani for the safety, well-being and smooth journey of all devotees,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and Udhampur MP Dr. Jitendra Singh also confirmed that all six injured were receiving assistance.
“Just now received the report of six persons, including five Amarnath pilgrims, having suffered injuries when their vehicle collided with a dumper truck near Jakhani this morning. No casualty. All possible assistance being provided. My office is in constant touch,” he said in a post on X.
The 57-day Shri Amarnath Yatra, which began on July 3, will conclude on August 28 on the occasion of Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan. So far, more than 3.50 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine.
