2 peddlers held in Sopore, Shopian

SRINAGAR, July 17: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in Sopore and Shopian, recovering psychotropic substance and around 120 grams of charas-like substance from their possession.

In Sopore, police apprehended a suspect during patrolling at Neharpora under the jurisdiction of Police Post Bus Stand. During a personal search, officials recovered a psychotropic substance from his possession, following which he was arrested.

The accused was identified as Abid Fayaz Shah, a resident of Neharpora Bagh Ali Street, Sopore. Police registered an FIR under Section 8/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Sopore and launched an investigation to trace the source of the contraband and identify others involved in the network.

In a separate operation, Shopian Police arrested an alleged drug peddler during naka checking at Naghard Crossing under the jurisdiction of Police Post Wachi. During the search, police recovered approximately 120 grams of charas-like substance from his possession.

The accused was identified as Yasir Altaf Allie, a resident of Melhura, Zainapora. An FIR under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Zainapora, and investigations are underway to establish forward and backward linkages in the drug supply chain.

Police said the action was part of the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan and reiterated its commitment to dismantling narcotics networks and curbing drug trafficking across the region. It also appealed to the public to share information related to drug peddling, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
