Hot, humid conditions to prevail over next few days

Srinagar, Jul 13: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness generally hot and humid weather over the next few days, with the Meteorological Centre here forecasting a fresh spell of widespread rain and the possibility of heavy showers in parts of the Union Territory from July 18 onwards.
According to details, weather conditions are expected to remain largely hot and humid between July 14 and 17, although scattered areas may receive brief spells of rain or thundershowers. Isolated places in the Jammu division could also witness short-duration intense showers during this period.
The MeT Centre said the weather is expected to change from July 18, with the forecast indicating partly to generally cloudy skies accompanied by light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places on July 18 and 19. Some isolated areas of the Jammu division may experience brief spells of heavy rainfall.
From July 20 to 22, the MeT Centre has predicted a further increase in rain activity, saying many parts of both Kashmir and Jammu divisions are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, while isolated locations could witness heavy rain or intense showers.
The weather office has also issued an advisory warning of heavy rainfall during the late hours of July 18, the morning of July 19 and again between July 20 and 22, particularly during the early morning and late afternoon hours.
It cautioned that the expected rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides at vulnerable locations, especially in the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal range, and advised people to avoid venturing near streams, nallas and landslide-prone areas during the forecast period. (KNO)
