New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday held telephonic conversations with the Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Maharashtra and Gujarat to review the prevailing situation caused by heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions, assuring them of all possible assistance from the Central Government.

Officials said Shah spoke separately with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to assess the impact of incessant rains and the preparedness of state administrations. During the conversations, the Union Home Minister assured every possible support from the Centre for rescue, relief and restoration efforts wherever required.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Shah reviewed the weather-related situation with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and reiterated that the Union Government stands firmly with the people of the Union Territory. He assured that all necessary central assistance would be extended to effectively tackle any challenges arising from heavy rainfall and related incidents.

During his interaction with the Kerala Chief Minister, Shah also expressed concern over the recent rain-related tragedy in Wayanad and appreciated the ongoing rescue and relief operations. He further called for a high-level inquiry into the incident, while assuring full support from the Centre for rehabilitation and disaster management efforts.

The Centre’s outreach comes as several parts of the country continue to experience intense monsoon activity, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in multiple states, prompting authorities to remain on high alert.
