Achieving milestones

House Listing Operations (HLO), or Phase 1 of Census 2027, have been completed throughout Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

The announcement of this accomplishment has been made by Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director of Census Operations.

The month-long, paperless project achieved complete coverage of the area. This represents an incredible accomplishment for our regions; it would not have been possible without the dedication of thousands of field workers, as well as the support from the district administrations and the Census Directorate, to successfully complete this large-scale survey.

The HLO was conducted entirely utilising digital technologies.

Public Participation was remarkably high, with more than 667,000 households in J&K and 7,009 households in Ladakh participating in the self-enumeration online process prior to the field enumeration workers’ arrival in the areas.

This exemplifies that our communities are committed to participating in efforts to develop a successful future for their families and their Islands.

The success of the project demonstrates the positive results of collaboration and using digital technologies to help address increasingly complex challenges.

The information collected will provide local leaders with a wealth of information to construct better schools, hospitals and roads for all.

The census team is already preparing for the next major milestone. In August, officials will develop District Census Handbooks for distribution to district officials and Census Bureau staff.

After the in-person counts are completed, the remote or snow-covered areas will also be counted soon after.

This major milestone of the Digital Era for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh is a reflection of their readiness for an advanced, digitally-inclined future.

This energetic and impactful collaboration of everyone involved from Government to families of all backgrounds emphasizes cohesive support.

It is a huge leap towards accurate and powerful development planning for all.
