The Gulmarg Gondola, located in Kashmir, has come back to life after completing its vital safety repair and maintenance work – taking a month to accomplish this.
Since the gondola’s mechanical failure, during which more than 300 individuals became stranded, local authorities recognized that maintaining public safety outweighed any concerns involved with completing repairs as quickly as possible; therefore, the gondola will now serve as one of the primary tourist attractions in this region.
The Government of Jammu and Kashmir launched operations levelled against the Gulmarg Gondola and reported that the reliable manufacturer of the gondola equipment, POMA, had reviewed and approved of the repairs performed. Based on this review and approval, the operators will continue to operate the gondola for rider enjoyment.
The month-long suspension attributable to safety-related repairs to the gondola demonstrates the Jammu and Kashmir government’s commitment to providing safe services to its citizens.
Prior to the gondola being reopened for use, the administration did not proceed unless all gondola systems were certified safe to be opened after the gearbox failure.
Before allowing the gondola to resume operation to the public, the administration also completed extensive testing on all cables, gondolas, and the carrying capacity of the gondola to ensure that their experience of riding the gondola would be safe and enjoyable.
The manner in which the local community conducted themselves during this uncertain time has reflected very positively on them.
In addition to the initial mechanical concern, as well as concerns that arose due to poor communication and assistance from volunteers, police, SDRF and India Army, through collaboration and commitment made by these groups, everyone on board the gondola will be assisted/rescued without injuries.
With all safety-related issues having now been resolved/confirmed, the gondola service is once again operational.
