Srinagar/Jammu, June 25: Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officer Romeen Sheikh was found dead at his residence in Jammu on Thursday, officials said.
Romeen Sheikh, a 2005-batch JKAS officer and a resident of Salian in Surankote area of Poonch district, was serving as Joint Director, Handloom Department, Kashmir Division.
Officials said Sheikh was found dead at his residence on Thursday morning. The exact cause of his death was not immediately known and is being ascertained.
Official sources said the body has been taken for necessary medico-legal formalities, while the concerned authorities have initiated proceedings to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed deep grief over the untimely demise of the officer.
In a condolence message, the Lieutenant Governor said, “Grieved by the untimely demise of Shri Romin Ahmad. As a dedicated officer, he served the people of Jammu Kashmir with dedication and commitment. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family in this difficult hour. May the Almighty grant eternal peace to the departed soul.”
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also condoled the demise of Romeen Sheikh, describing his passing as a significant loss to the administration.

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the officer’s demise.
In his condolence message, Dulloo described Sheikh as a dedicated, sincere and committed officer who served the people and the administration with professionalism and diligence throughout his distinguished career. He said the officer’s sudden passing was an irreparable loss to the Jammu and Kashmir administration and to all those who had the privilege of working with him.
The Chief Secretary conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, relatives and friends and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and strength for the family to bear the immense loss.
