2 peddlers arrested

Srinagar, June 19: Police on Friday arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in Anantnag and Handwara districts and recovered charas from their possession, officials said.

In Anantnag, a police team from Police Station Bijbehara apprehended Tariq Ahmad Dass, son of Mohammad Rafiq Dass and a resident of Dasspora Waghama, during a night operation at Waghama. During his search, police recovered around 110 grams of charas powder from his possession. A case under FIR No. 172/2026 has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara and investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, in Handwara, police arrested Tawseef Ahmad Ganie, son of Abdul Gani Ganie and a resident of Nelipora Magam, during a naka operation at Shahlal Crossing. Police said the suspect attempted to flee after noticing the naka party but was chased and apprehended. A search led to the recovery of a charas-like substance from his possession.

A case under FIR No. 159/2026 has been registered at Police Station Handwara and further investigation is underway.

Police said the actions were part of the ongoing drive against drug trafficking under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir campaign and reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics.
