Amarnath Yatra: DIG reviews security, infra preparedness on Baltal route

Srinagar, June 17: Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Maqsood-ul-Zaman on Wednesday conducted an on-ground assessment of security arrangements and infrastructure preparedness along the Baltal axis for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, officials said.

The DIG, designated as the overall supervisory officer for security arrangements on the Baltal route, inspected Baltal, Domail and Sonamarg to review measures put in place for the annual pilgrimage.

During the visit, he examined crowd management plans, traffic regulation mechanisms, emergency response systems, medical facilities, lighting arrangements, CCTV surveillance networks, barricading and coordination among various agencies involved in the yatra, officials said.

They said the officer expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements, infrastructure readiness and inter-agency coordination, and stressed that ensuring the safety and well-being of pilgrims remains the top priority.

Maqsood-ul-Zaman directed officials to maintain strict vigilance and ensure that all arrangements are implemented effectively to facilitate a smooth and secure pilgrimage, the officials said.

He also interacted with senior officers and personnel deployed on the ground and appreciated their efforts in making preparations for the yatra. He issued directions for immediate implementation of certain measures aimed at further improving operational efficiency and pilgrim convenience.

The DIG was accompanied by Police Yatra Officer Baltal and Commandant 8th JKAP-IR Raj Kumar, Commandant 14th JKAP Ghulam Jeelani, SSP and In-charge Commandant 2nd Women Battalion Zuhaib Tanveer, besides officers of District Police Ganderbal.

Officials said the review reflects the administration’s efforts to ensure a safe and hassle-free pilgrimage for devotees expected to undertake the annual Amarnath Yatra. (KNS)
