Defence Secy reviews op readiness in Ladakh

Jammu, June 08: Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh conducted an extensive review of military preparedness in the strategically important Ladakh region during a three-day visit, assessing operational capabilities, border infrastructure and logistical support systems in forward areas along both the India-Pakistan and India-China frontiers.

During his visit from June 5 to 7, Singh toured key forward locations in eastern Ladakh, including base camps and glacier sectors, where he interacted with troops deployed in some of the world’s most demanding terrains. He lauded the soldiers for their commitment, resilience and professionalism in safeguarding the country’s borders under extreme weather and operational conditions.

“Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh visited Leh Sector from June 5-7, 2026, reviewing operational preparedness, border infrastructure and logistical sustainability with senior military commanders at HQ 14 Corps”, PRO Defence said on X.

The Defence Secretary held detailed discussions with senior commanders at the headquarters of the XIV Corps, focusing on the prevailing security environment, border management and measures aimed at strengthening operational preparedness across the region.

Meanwhile, Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma also visited forward areas in the Ladakh sector on Saturday to review the security situation and assess the readiness of troops deployed along the frontier.

During his visit, Sharma was briefed on operational preparedness, border management mechanisms and ongoing capability enhancement programmes designed to reinforce the Army’s defensive posture in the high-altitude region.

The Army Commander evaluated the overall security landscape and reviewed the preparedness of formations operating in challenging mountainous terrain. He also assessed various initiatives being implemented to strengthen operational capabilities, improve surveillance and maintain a high state of vigilance along the sensitive border areas.

The visits by the Defence Secretary and the Northern Army Commander come amid continued efforts to enhance infrastructure, logistics and operational effectiveness in Ladakh, a region that remains strategically significant for India’s national security. (KINS)
