Padma Awards nominations open till Jul 31

New Delhi, June 5: The Centre has invited nominations and recommendations for the Padma Awards 2027, with the submission process remaining open until July 31, 2026.

According to an official statement issued on Thursday, nominations for the country’s highest civilian honours—Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri—opened on March 15 and can be submitted only through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal.

The Padma Awards, instituted in 1954, are announced annually on Republic Day and recognise distinguished and exceptional achievements across a wide range of fields, including art, literature, education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, trade and industry.

The government said it remains committed to transforming the honours into a “People’s Padma” and has encouraged citizens to actively participate in the nomination process, including through self-nominations.

It urged people to identify and recommend individuals whose contributions have had a significant impact on society, particularly women, members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, persons with disabilities, and those engaged in selfless public service.

All Indian citizens are eligible for the awards regardless of race, occupation, position or gender. However, government servants, including employees of public sector undertakings, are generally not eligible, except for doctors and scientists.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said nominations must be accompanied by detailed information highlighting the nominee’s distinguished achievements and exceptional service in the relevant field.

The Padma Awards are among India’s most prestigious civilian honours and are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Further details, including eligibility criteria, nomination procedures, statutes and rules governing the awards, are available on the Padma Awards and Ministry of Home Affairs websites.
