In May, for the first time in more than 6 months, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are expected to have a system of power generation that will enable them to generate 42% more energy than they will use.
This transformation is a vital achievement that represents a significant step towards improving energy security as well as supporting the economic development of these regions.
The availability of the excess energy is a result of new and upgraded transmission infrastructure that will transform how electricity is delivered.
Severe winter electricity shortages across these regions have historically prevented local economies from having sufficient resources to provide for their residents and businesses during the winter months.
The excess of 42% of the energy capacity in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh is indicative of the success achieved in integrating large amounts of hydropower into the regional grid, and in implementing innovative projects and technologies related to renewable energy generation.
The ability to supply an additional 42% of electricity in the form of renewable energy will provide significant support to the operations of local businesses, and therefore increase local employment and income levels.
Furthermore, as these regions develop their potential for renewable energy generation from hydropower and solar energy, they will be able to contribute substantially to the total electrical output from the Northern Grid rather than being dependent on fuel sources from outside.
The rise of electricity generation indicates that the local government, J&K Power Development Department (JKPDD), and Ladakh Power Development Department (LPDD) remain committed to growing the overall region independently and comprehensively through energy independence.
Our efforts to enhance electricity generation may greatly enhance our ability to generate energy from our power projects as soon as they are completed.
Electricity will provide independence for the future, along with new ways of being able to utilize the energy generated.
The new JK Administration is putting in place the necessary activities to enhance infrastructure, which will mark a new, long-lasting era of infrastructure reliability, quality jobs, and overall wealth in the Jammu and Kashmir Region for residents of the Jammu Region.
