India-UAE ties ‘very strong’: PM Modi

Abu Dhabi, May 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday described India’s friendship with the United Arab Emirates as “very strong” after holding talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.

“The friendship between India and UAE is very strong! Our nations will keep working together with the aim of building a better future for our planet,” PM Modi said in a post on X after the meeting.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two leaders held “wide-ranging and productive” discussions on strengthening cooperation in energy, trade and investment, blue economy, fintech, defence and people-to-people ties.

The leaders also exchanged views on developments in West Asia and other global issues.

Prime Minister Modi strongly condemned recent attacks on the UAE and attempts to violate its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“We strongly condemn the attack that took place in the UAE. The way the UAE was targeted is unacceptable in any form,” he said.

The Prime Minister praised the UAE leadership for maintaining national unity and security during difficult circumstances and thanked the government and royal family for taking care of the Indian community.

“In such challenging times, the way you cared for the Indian community and looked after them like members of your own family, I express my heartfelt appreciation to the UAE government and the royal family,” he said.

PM Modi reiterated India’s preference for dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts in West Asia and said the impact of the regional tensions was being felt globally.

The MEA said the visit imparted “further momentum” to the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and gave a “major boost” to India’s energy security.
