Shah to chair preparedness review meeting
New Delhi, May 08: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a crucial high-level meeting in New Delhi on Sunday, May 10, to comprehensively review the country’s preparedness for possible floods and heatwave conditions ahead of the summer and monsoon seasons.
The meeting will assess the readiness of Central Government agencies, including early warning systems, resource deployment and inter-agency coordination, with a focus on ensuring zero loss of life and minimal damage to property during natural calamities.
Officials said the review assumes significance in the backdrop of the Centre’s “Whole of the Government” and “Whole of Society” approach towards disaster management under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the meeting, Shah will review preparedness measures for dealing with simultaneous disasters, particularly floods and heatwaves, and evaluate steps being taken to strengthen forecasting and early warning systems through advanced technology and real-time data integration.
The Union Home Minister will also take stock of the availability of essential relief materials and medical preparedness across the country, besides reviewing community awareness and resilience-building programmes aimed at preventing loss of life and property.
According to the Government, Shah will review the progress of long-term flood mitigation measures being implemented across the country, including protection of critical infrastructure projects, river management initiatives and scientific advancements in forecasting.
The meeting will also assess the implementation of decisions taken during last year’s review meeting to ensure accountability and accelerated execution of disaster management measures by concerned agencies.
The Government said the Ministry of Home Affairs, under Shah’s guidance, has significantly strengthened the country’s disaster management framework in recent years through improved coordination between Central and State agencies, expansion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and sustained focus on a “zero casualty” approach during natural calamities.
Officials said the high-level review reflects the Centre’s emphasis on proactive governance, citizen-centric disaster management and building a disaster-resilient India.
