The Cabinet has approved a 2% increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees and pensioners in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. This DA increase will be made retroactive from January 1, 2026.
The approval of this increase is an example of a forward-thinking act to help support the financial stability of millions of families who live in the Union Territory.
This increase in DA is timely, given the overall increase in the cost of living, allowing both employees and pensioners to continue to have the same standard of living as before, despite experiences of increasing inflation.
The timing of the DA increase to align with when the government will announce their increases and making the DA effective from January 1, 2023, indicates that the administration would like to support their workforce and treat them with the same benefits as employees at the federal level.
By providing this increase to employees and pensioners with valuable resources, manpower will be available to continue providing essential services to the residents of the region.
Employees have been looking forward to this announcement for some time. The news that the DA is being increased will provide a boost to the morale of employees who are the backbone of delivering services in the region.
The decision by the cabinet to include additional improvements to administrative processes is a good example of the balanced approach between the welfare of employees versus the development of public infrastructure.
The increase in Dearness Relief (D/R) gives pensioners assurance of support as they enter retirement, as well as reasonable expectations for ongoing support.
This is an example of future-oriented governance which values the welfare of the employees and maintains progress for economic growth at state level.
This is a signal that the government will continue to enhance employee efficiency and to promote employee welfare and this 2% D/R increase will be one of many investment activities that the government will expand through to financial year 2026.
The 2% D/R increase isn’t just an increase in salary, it is an acknowledgement of the value of their service to the citizens of J&K.
