Srinagar, April 30: Continuing its sustained efforts to eradicate the drug menace under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, J&K Police carried out a series of enforcement and awareness activities across the district Baramulla.
Police Station Pattan received information regarding the illegal cultivation of poppy plants in the Wailoo area by one Mohd Shafi S/o Ab Jabbar Bhat R/o Wailoo Pattan. Acting promptly, FIR No. 94/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act was registered and investigation was initiated. A police team from Police Station Pattan reached the spot and, upon verification, found poppy cultivation on the identified land. In the presence of the Executive Magistrate 1st Class Kunzer and officials from the Excise, Agriculture, and Revenue Departments, the illicit crop was destroyed on the spot after completing all legal formalities. Samples of the crop were seized for forensic examination.
Moreover, a drug awareness programme was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School Bandi-Payeen, wherein students, school staff, and police officials actively participated and pledged to combat drug abuse. Further strengthening community participation, a massive anti-drug rally was organized in Gulmarg, witnessing enthusiastic participation from the trade fraternity and associated stakeholders, reflecting a collective commitment towards a drug-free society.
