Srinagar, April 30: In a major enforcement action under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, J&K Police in Sopore have booked seven repeat drug offenders under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act after obtaining proper detention orders from the competent authority.
The offenders have been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, son of Gh Hassan Lone, resident of Wagub Sopore (Lodged in District Jail Udhampur), Shabir Ahmad Ganie, son of Gh Mohammad Ganie, resident of Gousia Colony Dangerpora Sopore and Manzoor Ahmad Mochi, son of Mohd Shaban Mochi, resident of Harwan Bomai (Both lodged in Bhadarwah Jail), Jahangeer Ahmad Tantray, son of Fayaz Ahmad Tantray, resident of Behrampora Rafiabad and Waseem Raja, son of Bashir Ahmad Rather, resident of Kranshivan Sopore (Both lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jammu), Bilal Ahmad Lone, son of Habibullah Lone, resident of Gousia Colony Nadihal Rafiabad and Adil Ahmad Lone, son of Mohd Rajab Lone, resident of Nadihal Rafiabad (Both Lodged in Amphalla Jail Jammu).
All the above individuals are habitual offenders involved in multiple NDPS cases and have repeatedly engaged in drug trafficking despite earlier legal and preventive action, posing a serious threat to public health and safety. More such offenders have been identified, and the process for initiating strong preventive action, including detention under PIT NDPS Act, is underway.
Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and affirmed that all necessary measures will be taken to uproot the drug menace from the district. The general public is urged to remain vigilant, report drug-related activities and actively support the mission to build a drug-free Sopore.
