J&K limits extra pension benefit

Jammu, Apr 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Finance Department has issued a clarification on the admissibility of additional quantum of pension or family pension in cases where an individual draws both service pension and family pension.

According to the department, the age-linked additional benefit is personal to the pensioner and cannot be granted on more than one pension simultaneously.

The clarification states that if a J&K government pensioner is also receiving a family pension of a spouse, the additional quantum will be admissible only on the higher of the two pensions.

Similarly, in cases where pension or family pension is drawn from government-owned autonomous bodies, public sector undertakings (PSUs), corporations, or statutory bodies, the benefit will be allowed only on the higher pension.

However, the department has made an exception for individuals receiving a J&K government pension along with a Central Government or Defence pension. In such cases, the additional quantum may be granted separately under the respective rules of both governments.

The order will have prospective effect, and no recovery or adjustment will be made for payments already released in the past. (KINS)
