Padma Awards 2027 nominations open

New Delhi, April 27: Nominations for the Padma Awards 2027 have opened, with the Centre inviting recommendations until July 31, 2026, officials said on Monday.

The nomination process began on March 15 and will remain open exclusively through the online Rashtriya Puraskar Portal (awards.gov.in). The awards will be announced on the occasion of Republic Day 2027.

The Padma Awards—Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri—are among India’s highest civilian honours. Instituted in 1954, they are conferred annually to recognise “work of distinction” and exceptional service across a wide range of fields, including art, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, trade and industry.

According to the official statement, all persons are eligible for the awards irrespective of race, occupation, position or gender. However, government servants, including those employed in public sector undertakings, are not eligible, except for doctors and scientists.

The government reiterated its push to transform the honours into a “People’s Padma” by encouraging wider public participation. Citizens have been urged to submit nominations, including self-nominations, particularly highlighting individuals from women, weaker sections, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and persons with disabilities who have made notable contributions through selfless service.

Nominations must include all prescribed details as per the format available on the portal, along with a citation of up to 800 words outlining the nominee’s distinguished achievements in their respective field.

Further information, including statutes and rules governing the awards, is available on the websites of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Padma Awards portal, officials added.
