Calls for intensified enforcement, penal action
SHOPIAN, APRIL 27: Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Shishir Gupta, Monday chaired the monthly District Level NCORD meeting to review progress on anti-drug abuse initiatives and measures aimed at curbing drug trafficking and substance abuse in the district.
The meeting reviewed the performance of enforcement departments with regard to action against drug related offences.
Progress under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir was also assessed, and departments were directed to enhance activities.
Earlier, the DC stressed the need for strengthened inter departmental coordination and directed further enhancement of tracing mechanisms to dismantle drug supply chains.
The Drug Control Department was instructed to ensure strict monitoring of pharmacies and conduct regular inspections to prevent misuse and illegal sale of substances.
It was informed that 11 driving licences of individuals involved in NDPS related offences have been suspended, along with suspension of one vehicle registration (RC) linked to drug activities. Besides, eight FIRs have been registered during this month against the poppy cultivation.
The DC directed expediting such penal and strict actions to reinforce deterrence.
On the prevention front, the DC emphasized sustained awareness initiatives and directed departments to conduct regular programmes.
