2 siblings drown in Jhelum

Anantnag, April 13: Two brothers drown in the Jhelum river in Bijbehara area of Anantnag, with their bodies retrieved by rescue teams on Monday, officials say.

The incident occurs near Padshahi Bagh when the duo slips into the river while washing their sheep, triggering an immediate rescue response.

Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams rush to the spot and launch a search operation, combing the river stretch.

Officials identify the deceased as Shahid Malik and Majid Malik, residents of Jablipora village. Both are brothers.

Their bodies are shifted to Sub-District Hospital Bijbehara for postmortem examination.

Authorities initiate further legal proceedings as the operation concludes.

Meanwhile, local MLA Dr Bashir Veeri expressed grief over the tragedy and visited the bereaved family. (KNT)
