The Union Government states that approximately 67 lakh people are getting free food under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) scheme, which is an indication of the high priority placed upon food security within the Government of India in Jammu and Kashmir. It is important to note that the above number not only demonstrates how much an individual has benefited, but it also denotes how social policy can promote positive lifetime changes for individuals living in an area that has seen a variety of challenges.
The above value demonstrates the willingness of a government to provide all of its citizens with dignity and well-being and to ensure that all of its citizens have the ability to have financial security.
The provision of a large percentage of free food through the PMGKAY program is reasonably excellent and much of the praise for this initiative should go to the program itself.
The PMGKAY program has removed barriers to the provision of free ration to almost 67 lakh individuals in Jammu and Kashmir and therefore has provided assistance to many households.
Achieving the above accomplishment required an appropriate manner of execution to develop a plan of action regarding each component that makes up the PMGKAY program.
The Government of India (GoI) has partnered with the Union Territory (UT) government on the provision of rations to more than 2 million of India’s poorest families as part of an ambitious food distribution programme. This has required significant investment into infrastructure to achieve this objective. Furthermore, it represents a shift from vertically (central) designed and implemented food programming to horizontally (targeted) designed and implemented food programming, with the goal of ensuring that no eligible person is denied access to programme benefits.
In addition, while PMGKAY may be thought of as purely a food aid programme, there also serves as a means to achieving social justice as a society.
Furthermore, PMGKAY is a really good example of social justice by providing assistance to every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir, without regard for personal circumstance(s). The GoI and local government(s) will continue to work together to increase access to programmes available to citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.
