Jammu, Feb 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Monday said that banking outreach across the Union Territory has recorded a steady expansion, with an increase in the number of operational banking points during 2025.
According to official data shared by the government, the total number of banking points, including branches, business correspondents, ATMs, India Post Payments Bank outlets, and other financial institutions such as State Financial Corporations, has increased from 13,723 in March 2025 to 14,007 in September 2025.
The government said the expansion has improved access to formal banking services across urban and rural areas. As of September 2025, one bank branch is available on an average for every 5,535 people, while the geographical coverage per branch stands at approximately 19.06 square kilometres.
Officials said the increase reflects continued efforts to strengthen financial inclusion and improve availability of banking services, particularly in remote and underserved areas of Jammu and Kashmir. The government said measures are being taken to further enhance banking infrastructure to support economic activity and delivery of financial services. (KNT)
