Ensuring development

The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has accomplished one of its most significant accomplishments as a response to focused governance and a commitment to promote development.

Today, reports indicate that 81.13 percent of the projects funded through the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) were fully or mostly completed or nearly completed.

While this information may seem like numbers, it actually tells a story.  It tells how this area has changed, grown stronger, and become increasingly wealthy.

In 2015, the Prime Minister announced the PMDP, a unique and comprehensive collection of approximately 80,000 crores to expedite infrastructure and comprehensive development in Jammu and Kashmir and to develop a foundation for the state’s economic and sustainable growth.

A number of sectors are experiencing this transformation, but these sectors are the foundation of a modern economy and society.

New,world-class roads and tunnels have improved connectivity and shortened the time it takes to travel from Jammu to Srinagar, and now remote locations are linked to mainstream economies.

And new and innovative efforts to generate and distribute electricity have improved reliability in both the home and the workplace; electricity is a key component of success.

The revitalization of healthcare facilities, enhancements to the educational infrastructure, and the rollout of tourism-related projects have had a positive impact on the quality of life in the state of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) and are helping to empower the state’s youth.

In addition to this, the improvement of the tourism infrastructure will allow the region’s vast natural beauty to be showcased, providing additional opportunities for job creation and new economic activity.

The high percentage of project completion is indicative of effective project management practices through consistent project monitoring and strong support from both federal and state/local level offices to implement the successful completion of these projects.

As well, the outcomes associated with these projects are not only from the construction of buildings and roads, but rather the rebuilding of individuals’ self-esteem, building their optimism for their future, and providing opportunities for the state to move forward.

The youth of J&K are presented with an opportunity in the form of these projects for education and employment and have the potential to innovate.

Finally, these projects are helping the system learn, adapt and overcome challenges, thus meeting its objectives.

All remaining PMDP projects are moving rapidly through the pipeline, and soon, all the benefits from the PMDP will be recognised.
