Srinagar, Jan 15: Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather on Thursday called upon the opposition to play a healthy and constructive role during the upcoming budget session, expressing hope that the proceedings would be smooth and beneficial for the Union Territory.
Talking to reporters ahead of the session, the Speaker said the budget session is expected to be productive and in the larger interest of Jammu and Kashmir. He said all members of the House are experienced and should contribute positively to the deliberations.
“The role of the opposition is to corner the government, but I would like to suggest that this should be done in a constructive manner,” Rather said. He added that constructive criticism strengthens democracy and helps improve governance.
The Speaker expressed hope that there would be no disruptions during the session and that discussions would be held in a dignified and meaningful way. He said the Assembly is a forum for debate, dialogue, and resolution of public issues, and members should uphold its sanctity.
Rather said the budget session provides an important opportunity to discuss development priorities and address public concerns. He stressed that cooperation from all sides would ensure effective functioning of the House.
The Speaker’s remarks come ahead of the budget session, which is being closely watched for key policy announcements and legislative discussions. (KNT)
