The central government has ruled out the authenticity of the rumours that eggs were unhealthy and unsafe.
With the huge consumption of eggs in Kashmir especially during the winters, the statement and the clarity by Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI) has given a sigh of relief to the consumers.
Recently, the authority has issued a clear and definitive response to recent media reports claiming that eggs pose a risk of cancer.
The FSSAI has provided, based on scientific data, an assurance to consumers of India that eggs produced and marketed within India are perfectly safe for human consumption, therefore relieving the anxiety of the general population surrounding egg consumption.
FSSAI has further stated that the recent reports which have caused concern to consumers are based on false information due to the absence of credible scientific research to support these unfounded claims.
Therefore, the response of the FSSAI is not merely a casual rejection of these unfounded health claims; it is based upon scientifically sound reasoning with ongoing monitoring of public health.
The egg in its natural form, without additives, is one of nature’s most complete foods, it contains high-quality protein, vitamins, and minerals essential for human growth and development.
For many segments of the population, particularly children, pregnant women, and low-income families, they are an irreplaceable source of nutrition.
As such, the timing of this response from the FSSAI is of critical importance, as unfounded health claims have repercussions including influencing consumer choice regarding the purchase of eggs, increasing the price of eggs and contributing to malnutrition in many populations throughout India.
