The Union Ministry approved Rs 2,690.40 lakh in funding over three fiscal years to support public health initiatives for the State of Jammu and Kashmir through the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD).
With this funding, there will now be greater capacity for detecting and treating non-communicable diseases (NCDs), developing awareness about NCDs, and supporting the efforts of the government to improve access to screening facilities, diagnostic services, and better primary health care for rural populations throughout Jammu and Kashmir.
By investing in the prevention and treatment of NCDs, the government is addressing both the immediate pains associated with chronic illness and the longer-term economic consequences for individuals and families as well as the larger economic burden of treating those individuals and families
While these issues are of great concern to the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir, the government’s decision to invest in NCDs will ultimately support efforts to improve the overall health of the community and to develop sustainable health care delivery systems throughout all regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
In addition, this Initiative aligns with the Ayushman Bharat mission which aims to provide comprehensive, accessible and affordable health care for all.
Additionally, it reinforces that health care is a human right and therefore every citizen should have access to quality medical care regardless of geographic location.
The significant investment in J&K also demonstrates the Centre’s concern for the specific and unique health care requirements of the Union Territory and will therefore help to ensure that it does not fall behind on India’s march towards a healthier future.
Local Health Authorities now have the opportunity to make efficient use of resources for wellness clinics, education/training of healthcare workers, and assisting the community in living a Healthy Lifestyle.
Thus, these efforts will create a culture of health awareness while empowering individuals to take control of their health.
