Unlocking tourism potential

A team of the officials working for the Tourism Department of Kashmir and Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation have taken over the operation of tourist facilities at Shikargah Tral & Naristan Aripal.

This initiative by the government signifies that theses places in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are vital for the tourism opportunities that will be benificial foe both the administration and the locals.

For years, Naristan Aripal has been praised as a hidden jewel of South Kashmir; only a few discerning local citizens and intrepid travellers have discovered these areas.

Now that these areas have been officially added to the organized tourism programme in Kashmir, it is more than just a matter of administration; this is a vision to promote all that is beautiful about the land of Kashmir to the world!

The new additions mean that tourists will no longer find disoriented signs or ramshackle buildings. The teams at both the Tourism Department of Jammu and Kashmir and JKTDC will work together to ensure that the development of tourism in these two regions is done in an environmentally friendly manner and with a strong focus on the visitor experience.

Therefore, not only do you get improved signage and renovated facilities, but you will also receive an approach to developing tourism that focuses on accessibility, the overall experience of the visitor and environmental stewardship.

In addition, the creation of this initiative represents the combination of the operational strengths of the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department, the operational strengths of JKTDC, and the technical excellence of Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation, allowing for a holistic view of tourism in the region while ensuring that the development continues to be both strategic and sustainable moving forward.

Creating sustainable, environmentally friendly infrastructure that adds value to the visitor experience while preserving the fragile natural and cultural resources that make up the destination is the top priority.

The results will have a much more far-reaching effect than just the walking pathways and observation areas. The local economy of Pulwama has the potential for substantial growth due to tourism’s impact on local businesses via a variety of economic development actions.

Tourism is a great contributor to job creation and entrepreneurial development for local communities; from homestays to artisan products and guided tours of local sites and foods.

By creating this type of tourism, the local communities will gain the benefit of having the means of earning a living as well as the ability to realise their aspirations of becoming responsible stewards of their environment and resources, sharing in the development of that area.
