Meeting demands

With the decreasing temperatures in Kashmir, the peak power demand has surged past the 1900 Megawatts mark. However, due to the reduced water levels, the power generation from the local hydel plants has also taken a dip by nearly 75 percent.

While the local generation has reduced, the central government has allocated a good chunk of power from the unallocated share.

Besides, the local administration in Jammu and Kashmir has also come up with the solutions like agreement to Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and power marketing.

Meeting a peak demand of over 1900 MW is a proof to competent and upgraded Kashmir

The consistency in delivering power especially during the peak needed hours, the authorities are ensuring the vibrancy in the local economy of Jammu and Kashmir.

This also helps in bringing life to the hospitals which are major and important sectors that rely on the power. Furthermore, it helps the local population to evade the bone chilling cold.

Meeting of power demand in Kashmir especially during the winters is not less than a magic for the locals here who usually used to face the dark days even before the commencement of harsh winters.

As far as the dip in local generation is concerned, it cannot be ruled out as a failure. The dip in generation usually takes place when the water level in rivers reduces drastically.

However, the government in collaboration with the central electricity agencies can develop more advanced infrastructure that can run the power mill even during the lowest of the water levels.

Although, there has been a lot of improvement by establishing many new grid station and upgraded transmission lines.

The government though has already rolled out a policy of rooftop

solar with a huge subsidy can further advertise the policy and the perks of it so that the local of Kashmir can also evade or minimize their electricity bills.
