As the doctors in Jammu and Kashmir have stated that nearly ten percent of the local population are living with diabetes and the nearly 15 percent are reeling under pre-diabetic stage.

These figures state the increasing public health risks and demand immediate actions to curb the disease and  aware the people of Jammu and Kashmir

Among such a huge population of Jammu and Kashmir, there may be some of the citizens who are unaware of the means of controlling the diseases.

Diabetes if controlled at an earlier stage will likely not harm anybody but at the same time, a person has to keep in view that if it remains untreated, it can be harmful and may cause heart disease, kidney failure or blindness.

The Jammu and Kashmir region has undergone a significant nutritional transition. Traditional, balanced diets rich in whole grains and seasonal vegetables are being rapidly replaced by processed foods, sugary beverages, and calorie-dense snacks.

This shift in diets coupled with increasingly sitting lifestyles can be termed as one of the major reasons for the increase of Type-2 diabetes.

Besides, the common causes nowadays including stress and unhygienic factors can add some more factors that need to be corrected.

There is a need to spread awareness among the people as to how they can prevent the basics of the disease. Authorities shall push in public health drives and campaigns.

Besides, there is a need to issue advisories like do’s and don’ts so that people can take and consume food with caution.

The government must devise a policy considering financial points on sugary drinks to reduce the consumption.

It also must regulate labelling on every food item so that the consumers will get pure and original products.

Although there has been a lot of improvement in the local healthcare system of Jammu and Kashmir. However, the concerned authorities must push for a reliable and advanced healthcare system for the public.
