Jammu, Oct 20: Lieutenant General Rajan Sharawat, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Rising Star Corps, on Monday visited Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir to review the operational preparedness of troops stationed along sensitive areas.
According to a Defence spokesperson, Lt Gen Sharawat visited the Bani-Macchedi sector and took stock of the readiness and deployment of forces in the region. He interacted with the troops on the ground and commended their courage, dedication, and high level of operational alertness in ensuring the safety and security of the area.
The Bani-Macchedi mountainous belt in Kathua has remained strategically significant due to its proximity to the International Border (IB) and its location along routes that connect to Doda, Kishtwar, and Udhampur districts. The area has witnessed several militant attacks and encounters over the past year and a half.
To strengthen border security and prevent infiltration, the Army last year deployed multiple companies in the high-altitude Bani–Macchedi sector, bolstering surveillance and quick-response capability in the region. (KINS)
