Ranji trophy’s homecoming

The start of the 2025-26 Ranji trophy season at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, in Srinagar, is not just a sporting event on a schedule. For first responders, it is a significant moment for the young cricketers of the area to be seeing players, who come from their homes, in the whites of their country, on their own watery turf.

It provides unbelievable hope, and brings hope from unfathomable places, to something very attainable and reasonable.

For a kid from the area to be lined up opposite a famous international bowler, with his home crowd in attendance, there is no better possible intervention, no coach conference, no other official platform that does more for the landscape of the game. It tells every child with a scraped bat and cracked ball.

The return of the Ranji Trophy is also another confident nod that matters of security and stability are improving in regards to the area.

A combined and coordinated relationship between local officers, the Jammu and Kashmir administration, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), have all created an environment reduced to a tournament framed in this way.

Coordinating a multi-day, multi-team event involves an incredible amount of logistics and trust that culminates in a successful launch. An achievement that every involved party should take pride in.

It shows the country and the world that Kashmir is not only willing to be tourism-ready, but an elite destination for big sporting events.

However, this homecoming, is beyond sport and an acceptance, it is a celebration of the people of Kashmir’s love of cricket. The excitement of the crowds, the energy exhibited in the stands, and the hospitality of teams visiting are great reminders that sports are an integral part of Kashmiri culture.

This launch is for the loyal fans, families that have a new weekend destination, and the community to show their best to the rest of India.
