Calls for collective efforts to tackle drug menace
SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary Tuesday attended one day BodyBuilding and Physique competition organized by National Physique Committee at Tagore Hall here.
The event was organised in 55 kg to 95 kg weight category in which Salim was declared as overall champion whereas Riyan won in classic physique category. Zaid Abdullah was adjudged the winner in the men’s physique competition.
While speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister said that he felt delighted to see the strength of motivated participants in NPC BodyBuilding and Physique Competition. He added that energy and dedication of participants reflect the positive direction our youth can take.
The Deputy CM further maintained that the Government is channeling the energy of youth in the right direction to curb the menace of drug abuse in them.
The Deputy CM extended best wishes to participants for future competition and said that the government is committed to work in promoting the sport and nurturing new talent in J&K by providing them top notch infrastructure, facility and mentorship so that they can be prepared for national/international events.
The Deputy Chief Minister also distributed medals, trophies and certificates to the top performers of the competition.
Meanwhile, a deputation of Civil Society Forum Kashmir called on Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary in Civil Secretariat here and submitted a memorandum requesting firm efforts to curb the menace of drug addiction in Jammu & Kashmir.
The deputation also apprised the Deputy CM regarding drug addiction spreading in an alarming manner across educational institutions, including schools, colleges, universities, and coaching centres stressing on urgent need to address the issue in a systematic, coordinated, and evidence-based manner.
The deputation suggested various recommendations to combat and control drug addiction within educational institutions including Institutional Monitoring Committees, enhanced surveillance and security, faculty training and capacity building, monitoring of vendors, Anti-Narcotics awareness camps etc.
Understanding the seriousness of the issue, the Deputy Chief Minister called for collective efforts aimed at tackling drug addiction and ensuring a safer educational environment.
He said that drugs have severely impacted the social fabric of our society which needs urgent attention.
The Deputy Chief Minister stressed on coordination between educational institutions and local police, health departments, and de-addiction centres for joint interventions, awareness drives, and response mechanisms.
Choudhary also advised for conducting biannual parent counselling sessions and educational workshops to help families recognize signs of drug abuse.
